social events at the xxxVI congress

Due to the worldwide pandemic, the XXXVI FIDEM congress was held online. Therefore no social events were held. An award and prize ceremony was arranged online for the paying congress participants on Saturday 4 December 2021.

Prize Ceremony

At the end of the General Assembly meeting, FIDEM awarded a certain number of prizes.

The new FIDEM medal replacing the FIDEM at 70 medal - created by Anna Wątróbska-Wdowiarska - was awarded to Masaharu Kakitsubo, Nobuko Koinumaru, Yu Harada, Masao Namiki and Toshiaki Yamada for their work with the XXXVI FIDEM congress.

The new FIDEM Collector's award - was created and donated to FIDEM by Bogomil Nikolov. This FIDEM prize is awarded to medal collectors who have focused on collecting contemporary medals. The 2020-2021 year's Collector's Award was presented to Donald Scarinci.

 

Another one was the Pro Liberalitate Tua – created and donated by Bogomil Nikolov to FIDEM. This FIDEM prize is awarded to individuals and institutions which have helped FIDEM financially. This year it was awarded to Masaharu Kakitsubo for his generous support to the FIDEM 2020 congress.

The FIDEM Grand Prix was awarded to Michael Meszaros (Australia) for his long carrer as medal artist, for his contribution to the art of the medal through representation, education and dedication to members at home and abroad. Consideration was given to technique, craftsmanship and the ability to communicate thoughts and ideas through the medium of the art medal. In addition, points were given to the creation of a multi sided medal, encouraging the viewer to explore the medal and its message from all sides.

FIDEM Japan created the Japanese Prize to be awarded to the medal evoking the best Japanese theme and/or image exhibited at the congress. The prize was created to celebrate the FIDEM TOKYO 2020 Congress and is one of its kind.

The prize medal for this award was jointly created by the members of the
FIDEM Japan Executive Committee, Mr Mitusji Matsuda and Mr Yoshito Terasaki.

Non-FIDEM awards

The Mel Wacks Judaica Art Medal Award was revealed during the lecture held by Mel himself about the prize. Two artists were chosen to share the Mel Wacks Judaica Art Medal Award, for Judaic, Biblical or Holy Land themes:
